Canterbury Festival releases a packed schools line-up - 30/07/2010
Canterbury Festival is Kent’s international arts festival, and will take place between the 16th and the 30th of October at various locations across the city; 2010 is set to celebrate the individual.
The festival includes over 200 events in the two weeks, all across the arts - from theatre, classical music and dance, to world music, comedy and talks, visual arts, walks and the youth driven Festival Fringe.
Events suitable for schools include: the Sacconi Quartet, Roger McGough, Dance: Ballet Black/Swan Lake, Moonfleet and Austen's Women. Other highlights include the poet Carol Ann Duffy, who is currently studied by GCSE and A-Level students in the UK.
The festival opens with a free community carnival parade through the city streets, with colourful paper and light sculptures, music and movement, and featuring over 500 local school pupils and community groups. Throughout the festival fortnight, the dedicated family programme offers entertaining performances and workshops for and by children, including Children’s Laureate Anthony Browne.
